It is advised that you refrain from having sex while you’re using Monistat. If you’re using Monistat then you have a yeast infection also so it’s not just the Monistat that is preventing you from having enjoyable, safe sex.

Your vaginal lining

During a yeast infection the lining of your vagina is being eaten by the mutated Candida fungus. This means that any friction from sexual intercourse is going to cause more damage to the cells in your vagina. Also the Monistat is going to be as effective if it isn’t allowed to do it’s job properly.

If your yeast infection isn’t cured with your first treatment because you decided to have sex then you’ll need a second course of Monistat. With every course you need you have a greater chance of the yeast in your vagina becoming resistant to the treatment and then you’ll need to start taking oral anti fungals to cure an infection that should have been cured the first time of trying.

Contraception

If you’re using any contraception such as condoms or diaphragms these can be damaged by the cream. This means you have a chance of getting pregnant as your method of contraception could fail because of the Monistat.

Passing on the infection

Having sex while you have a yeast infection can pass the infection to your partner. While yeast infections aren’t classed as sexually transmitted diseases they can still be passed from person to person. If you pass on a resistant strain of Candida to your partner then they’ll be in trouble also.

It’s not really that long

Your vaginal yeast infection should be fully cured within 10 days if you follow your doctors advice and use the treatment as recommended. So that means you’ll be 10 days without sex while your vagina becomes fully healed. I’m sure you’ll make up for lost time once you’re healed and you’ll enjoy yourself with your partner a lot more.
